Old Pueblo Ramble
This is the site of the 24 hour race. There is a variety of roads and trails in this area. This route follow the red trail on the map. The ride is suitable for beginners, but fun for all. It starts on a rough jeep road, then follows mellow singletrack up and over a low pass. We like to reverse course and follow the singletrack back again. Then ride a good gravel road to more single track. Then more road, and more singletrack. The ride is 14.87 miles, with a bit over 1000 feet of climbing.
Getting there: Take highway 79 (Oracle Rd) north from Tucson to Oracle Junction. From Oracle Junction, follow highway 77 NE towards Oracle for 4.9 miles. Look for sign on right side of highway for Willow Springs Road, on left (going north). Follow the good gravel road for 6.6 miles. Immediately after passing through arched gate for Willow Springs Ranch, turn left on a small road and follow it 100 yards to a parking area.
0.0 Pick up the trail (a fairly rough jeep road) going north out of the parking area. Follow it for 1.8 miles to an intersection by a powerline tower.
1.8 Turn right and follow the good road for .4 miles. Just after passing through a wash, look for the singletrack beginning on the left (north).
2.2 Follow the singletrack for 2.76 miles.
4.96 Then we like to turn around and ride it back in the opposite direction, putting us back on the good road.
7.91 Follow that road back west (reversing your earlier course, passing the point you enter it initially, for 1.72 miles.
9.63 A road enters from the south. Just beyond that a singletrack begins going south, parallelling the road. Follow it for .7 miles, to another road.
10.34 Turn left (west), and follow that road .5 miles to a junction.
10.84 Turn left (southwest), following that road downhill 1.05 miles, to where the road levels out and turns due west.
11.89 Look back over your left shoulder for the beginning of a singletrack going east, up a rocky slope. Follow the singletrack for 1.50 miles, where it ends at a road.
13.39 Follow the road to the right (ESE), through a gate, and back to the vehicles in 1.15 miles.
14.87 End of ride.
